The Accordance Program is a unique, comprehensive after school arts program, developed by Port City Dance Academy's amazing artistic team. The actual cost of running the program is about $2,000 per child, but we have set an ambitious fundraising goal to enable children to attend the program at no cost to their families. In 2012-2013 (Year One) up to 18 children from grades four to six will be selected to attend classes every day after school from 3:30-5:00, for 32 weeks.
Every aspect of the program will promote physical, emotional, spiritual, and intellectual wellness and social responsibilities. Every day the classes will have a physical component as well as intellectual and expressive components. The curriculum will include: traditional, classical, and contemporary dance techniques; fitness classes; instruction in art forms that are related to dance like music, drama, visual arts, poetry, and film; exploring artistry and expression, and using technique for the purpose of creating. There will be opportunities for the students to present and perform, and to relate their discoveries of dance and other arts to academic learning.
Port City Dance Academy has a highly qualified, social-minded, teaching staff, a network of outstanding external resources, and an ideal facility and location for the program. The PCDA studio-theatre is located at 187 Saint James Street, across the street from St. John the Baptist - King Edward School,
Although the number of children who are directly involved might seem small, the impact on their lives can be profound, and via performances, presentations, and other means of sharing, the 18 students can reach even further into the community. The primary objectives for the program are social, but the artistic and educational goals are a very close second. Those goals include learning, mastering, creating and expressing. To deliver this broad ‘arts immersion’ program Port City Dance Academy has gathered an amazing team that includes experts in the fields of dance, music, literature and creative writing, drama, visual arts, fitness, and public education.
This program is unique and innovative because of its comprehensive curriculum, and the frequency and duration of the classes; factors that will give Accordance students the best possible chance not only to succeed, but to excel. We have yet to find an identical program elsewhere in Canada. This project is definitely worthy of your support, if you would like to donate (charitable tax receipts can be issued) or help raise funds, please contact us.
