STORM POLICY

Dance classes are not automatically cancelled on days that public schools are closed. On stormy days, students are asked to check the Index Page of this website, or listen to local radio stations that air community cancellations.  Of course, we always expect that parents will use their own good judgement!
REFUND POLICY

For schedule changes and/or withdrawal from classes students should request, in writing, a fee update and/or refund. Please include the date of schedule change or withdrawal so that your refund will be accurate. Students who withdraw from a class after the first week will be charged $15 per class up to and including the week that we are notified of your withdrawal. Any payments over that amount will be refunded and post-dated cheques will be returned.

STUDENT INFORMATION FOR
The Nutcracker & The Girl With The Shell

SPECIAL NOTE: This year, our performances of The Nutcracker & The Girl With The Shell will help to raise awareness and funds for Foundation Glycosylation. Known as The FoG, the foundation was established in Saint John by Dr. Duncan Webster with the support of the Saint John Regional Hospital Foundation, the University of New Brunswick and the Saint John campus of Dalhousie Medical School. The mandate of The FoG is to raise funds to support further research on CDG (Congenital Disease of Glycosylation). Although CDG is considered rare, research into the disease may benefit other genetic disorders, and an improved understanding of glycosylation pathways and function can have far reaching implications. You can read more about CDG by visiting www.PortCityDanceAcademy.org (NUTCRACKER PAGE) or www.thefog.ca.

You may participate in PCDA’s Nutcracker if you are in Ballet Level C or higher.

Cost: To help offset some of the costs associated with costumes, rehearsals, props, guest artist, etc. PCDA is asking Nutcracker students to pay a performance fee of $40.

This year, Liam Caines, from Canada’s Royal Winnipeg Ballet, will be our special guest artist. He will dance the newly created role of "Uncle Knight" (based on the traditional Drosselmeyer character).  The performances will be held on Saturday, December 3 at 7pm and Sunday, December 4 at 2pm at Théâtre Louis Vermeersch (École Samuel de Champlain). Tickets are $10 each, and charitable tax receipts can be issued for tickets that are donated to local school children and/or families.

IF YOU WANT TO SIGN UP. . . First of all, read all of this Nutcracker information, including the “Important Notes”. Only after you have read all of the informationemail (ballet@portcitydanceacademy.org) OR phone (657-3877) OR tell Mrs. Scott, Ms. Rondos, or Miss Galbraith.

IMPORTANT NOTES:

- For General Rehearsals, some students may not be needed for the entire 2.5 hours. If possible we will let students know in advance when they will not be needed for the entire rehearsal slot. We will also try to schedule costume fittings, etc. during this time.

- PLEASE CONSIDER THE TIME COMMITMENT CAREFULLY BEFORE SIGNING UP. There are only SIX (6) General Rehearsals scheduled. If students find that they must miss two or more General Rehearsals, they MIGHT have to be cut from performances. However, they will still be more than welcome to continue attending rehearsals, and the performance fee will NOT be returned.

- What does “rehearsals as needed” mean? It means that we hope to have everything completely polished and ready for performance well before these rehearsal slots, but just in case there is anything that isn’t coming together as it should, we have a little extra time scheduled for finishing touches. Regrettably, we can’t predict what scenes or sections might require a little bit of extra practice time.

- STUDENTS WHO ATTENDED PCDA 2011 SUMMER CLINIC; if you will be participating in Nutcracker shows, we would like, if possible, for you to attend an extra rehearsal on the Saturday of the Thanksgiving weekend from 1:00-3:00 (Ballet C students) or 1:00-4:00 (Ballet D and up).

- *Students who are registered for Felicità or regular classes that are learning Nutcracker repertoire are not required to pay the $40 fee IF they will NOT be attending any of the SUNDAY General Rehearsals.

- We are looking for sponsorship and programme advertising – maybe you know a person or a business who would like some information? We will, of course, also be asking students to try to sell tickets to their friends, family, and neighbours.

- Maybe you, or someone you know, would like to help with preparations in advance or on the day of the show - - join our Nutcracker Committee!  Perhaps you are good at sewing, or painting, marketing & promotion, putting up posters, passing out programmes, doing hair & makeup, making headpieces . . .
